Preparing for Surgery
- Stop Smoking: Smoking increases the risk of postoperative pneumonia and slows the circulation of blood to the skin, which in turn slows healing.
- Two weeks before your scheduled procedure: Stop taking any drugs containing Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Stop taking Fish Oils, Flaxseed, and Garlic, Vitamin E or any supplement or Herbal remedy that may have blood-thinning effects.
- Have all your ordered lab work and blood test completed one to two weeks before your cosmetic surgery procedure. Have all results faxed to our office at 949-248-1956 (San Clemente) or 714-557-0709 (Santa Ana).
- Have all prescription medication filled: If you have any questions about the use of your medication, bring them to the office and we will be happy to go over the directions with you.
- One week before your scheduled procedure: Be sure you have signed all consent forms and return them to our office. Make your final payment for your procedure. Make your post-op appointment.
- If you are undergoing anesthesia, make sure you have someone you know drive you home. You will also need to have a responsible person stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure.
- Get your house ready. Each surgical procedure may have different requirements. Check with your doctor or nurse.
- The night before your scheduled procedure: Eat a light meal and be sure you are well hydrated; no alcohol.
- Take your first dose of antibiotics. Dr. Roham may have prescribed other medication for you so be sure which medication he wants you to take the night before your procedure.
- Shower with Hibiclens the night before and the day of your procedure.
- Remember you must not eat or drink anything after midnight. This includes breath mints and gum.
- The morning of your scheduled procedure: Shower with Hibiclens. Do not apply lotion or wear make-up.
- Please do not bring any valuables, money or jewelry. If you need corrective lenses, please wear glasses not contact lenses.
- Wear something comfortable and easy to pull on and off. If you have long hair, bring something to tie your hair back.
- Remember no food or liquids eight hours before your scheduled procedure. If you do eat or drink something, we will be forced to reschedule your surgery and you will forfeit your deposit.
- Arrive 45 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
