Candidates

Facelift procedures are best suited for patients who are in good general health, do not smoke, and have specific issues they want to correct on their face. It is also good for patients to have realistic expectations about their results and be willing to listen to and collaborate with the surgeon and their team when planning the procedure. If you look older than you feel due to sagging skin and deep wrinkles, then you may be an ideal candidate for a facelift.

Personal Consultation

At your consultation, we will examine your signs of aging to determine the facelift or other facial rejuvenation techniques that are right for you. The facelift is sometimes combined with another procedure like a neck lift or brow lift for more full facial rejuvenation. In some cases, a patient may be a candidate for a mini facelift with fewer, smaller incisions and less tissue repositioning. This technique is appropriate for those with mild signs of aging that do not require a full facelift. This technique also leads to an easier recovery period.

Preparation

In preparation for your procedure, we will screen your medical history for any medications, supplements, past surgeries, allergies, or preexisting conditions that could cause complications during your procedure or recovery. You will also receive specific preparation instructions from our team. You can expect to be asked to alter your medications, fill prescriptions, and fast for a period before your procedure. This is all to ensure your safety and maximize the effectiveness of the procedure.

If you smoke or regularly consume alcohol, you should plan to abstain from these for a few weeks before and after your facelift. Additionally, we require all patients to arrange transportation to and from their procedure.

Procedure

​​Facelift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation for your comfort. Your surgeon will place incisions around the ear and along the hairline where they can be easily concealed. ⁽²⁾ They will reposition the facial skin for a more youthful appearance. ⁽²⁾ They will also remove excess tissue to further eliminate wrinkles and drooping skin. Your surgeon will use sutures to secure the results in place in a way that appears natural.

Recovery

After a facelift, some patients may go home the same day, while others stay in the hospital for one night to recover under supervision. Following your procedure, we will wrap your face with a special bandage to minimize swelling and protect your incision sites. Patients should plan to take at least a week off work to rest and recover at home.

During this time, it is important to keep your head elevated to help minimize swelling and bruising. Your surgeon may place very small drains at the time of surgery to remove excess fluids from the treated areas. They will remove these drains the day after surgery, and remove sutures one week later.

There may be some discomfort after a facelift that can be managed with the medication prescribed to you. As with all surgery at Roham Advance Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, you will be given detailed before and after-surgery instructions before your treatment. Results

It is normal to experience some swelling and mild bruising in your face after your procedure. This is not cause for concern, as it is your body’s natural healing process. Fortunately, you will be able to see the results of your procedure even before these symptoms fully fade.

Your skin will show fewer wrinkles and sagging, and your jawline may be more defined. Once swelling and bruising fade, these results will be much more visible. On average, the results of a facelift can last for about 10 years.
