Breast Augmentation Roham Advance Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Dr. Tim Roham

Breast augmentation is a procedure that increases the size of your breasts and improves their shape with implants. When you think of breast implants, your first thought may be of round, oversized breasts that look artificial. While that is certainly achievable if that is your desired look, most of our breast augmentation patients prefer a more natural appearance. To keep your breasts looking authentic, you will probably want to choose an implant size that improves the shape of your breasts and balances your proportions. Teardrop-shaped implants mimic the shape of the youthful breasts more than round implants. Additionally, silicone implants have a texture that more closely resembles real breast tissue than saline implants.

At Roham Advance Laser & Cosmetic Surgery, we have helped thousands of patients transform their figures for a curvier, fuller look. Dr. Tim Roham is a top cosmetic surgeon, specializing in breast augmentation with silicone and saline implants. Breast enhancement is a safe and effective way to increase the size of your breasts, improve your figure, and boost self-confidence. Our doctors are well known for their attention to detail and amazing results. Contact our office to learn more about how we can help you achieve fuller, beautiful breasts with breast augmentation:

Before and After Photos

About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures. Surgeons performed more than 304,000 procedures in 2023 to help women improve the appearance of their breasts. (1) Women of all ages choose to have breast augmentation for many reasons, including underdeveloped, uneven, or sagging breasts. You can make many changes to your body by making healthy choices, but if you are dissatisfied with the size of your breasts, surgery may be your only option. With breast augmentation, we can improve your appearance and boost your self-esteem. Every year, thousands of women undergo this surgery and are extremely satisfied with their results.

Implant Size

Your surgeon will determine the best implant size to help you meet your aesthetic goals. Different implant sizes can help you increase your breast volume for a fuller look. Both saline and silicone implants come in different sizes to help you achieve your desired volume. They typically range from 120cc to 800cc. CCs are the metric unit of volume used to describe breast implant capacity. During your consultation, we can discuss the best implant size for your needs.

Implant Shape

Breast implants are available in different shapes– both round and anatomical (teardrop). Round implants are circular and can help to create the appearance of fuller breasts with more cleavage. Teardrop or anatomical implants have a slight slope to them and are designed to mimic the shape of a “natural” breast more closely. During your consultation, we can discuss the best type of implant for your body shape and we can place the implant above or below the muscle for your desired look.

Implant Type

We offer two different types of implants for breast augmentation – silicone and saline. Each has its benefits, so the decision will ultimately come down to personal preference. Saline implants are inserted into the breast pocket empty and, once placed, are filled with a sterile saline solution. Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive gel that feels more like a natural breast. Silicone implants produce a more natural look and allow for a larger cup size increase depending on your goals.

Implant Profile

Implants come in different profiles that are based on the appearance of the implant from the side:

  • High-profile breast implants produce a rounder appearance and more outward projection; they work better for women who have loose or droopy skin.
  • Moderate profile breast implants create a more natural shape and appearance and are commonly used for women with tighter skin and smaller breasts who wish for a more subtle, natural look.

Incision Location

Your surgeon can hide your incisions along the natural curves of your breasts, around the areola, or beneath the arm. An incision along the inframammary crease (beneath the breast) gives your surgeon easy access to create a pocket in the breast to place the implant. Scarring is minimal as it blends in with the breast’s natural folds. Your surgeon can also make a periareolar incision– an incision along the lower half of the areola. This incision is most commonly used if a patient is undergoing additional breast procedures such as a breast lift or areola reduction. We can also perform the transaxillary breast augmentation method– we will place an incision in the armpit. Your surgeon takes care to make careful incisions that are well-hidden along the natural folds of your skin. Your surgeon can perform the transaxillary incision for saline implants, but if you need silicone implants to achieve your desired look, they will likely make an incision along the inframammary fold.

Breast Augmentation Benefits

Breast augmentation provides numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhanced body image: Many patients report a significant boost in confidence and self-esteem after breast augmentation.
  • Correcting asymmetry: With breast augmentation, we can balance your proportions and correct asymmetry.
  • Restoring volume after changes: If you have lost breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss, we can help you increase the size of your breasts with breast augmentation.

  • Long-lasting results: If you take good care of your body and exercise regularly, you can maintain your results for many years.
  • Natural appearance: We can help you achieve a natural look with implants that mimic the feel of your natural breast tissue.
  • Customizable procedures: Breast augmentation is customizable, and we can use implants of different sizes and shapes to help you achieve your desired look.

Breast Augmentation Candidates

The ideal candidate for breast augmentation is a woman who is dissatisfied with her current breast size and wants to improve the symmetry and fullness of her breasts to boost her confidence in her appearance. If you are in good health, have realistic expectations, and do not smoke, you are likely a good candidate. Your surgeon will discuss several options with you before performing your breast augmentation:

  • Implant type (saline vs silicone)
  • Implant shape (round vs anatomically shaped)
  • Incision location (under the breast, around the areola, or under the arm)
  • Implant location (under the breast tissue or the chest muscle)

Dr. Roham will discuss each of these options in full detail with you during your consultation, so you have the information necessary to make an educated decision for optimal results. Some women may also wish to have a breast lift at the same time to further improve the appearance of the breasts.

Breast Augmentation Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Roham will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and current medications. Dr. Roham will perform a physical exam to determine the best procedure to help you achieve your desired look. The material of the implant as well as its size and shape can affect your results and body proportions (2) so it is important that we discuss your aesthetic goals in depth during your consultation. If you have photographs of your aesthetic goals, it is important to bring them. If you had a breast augmentation in the past, we can discuss how we can help you achieve a curvier, fuller shape.

Preparation

Preparation is crucial for achieving the best possible results from breast augmentation. Once your surgery date is confirmed, you will receive a list of preoperative instructions. Before your procedure, you will need to:

  • Discontinue blood thinners and medications, such as NSAIDs, for at least two weeks
  • Cease nicotine use because it can affect healing
  • Arrange for transportation to and from the surgery facility
  • Prepare for your recovery by coordinating time away from work and social activities
  • Fill prescriptions for necessary medications ahead of time

Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast Augmentation Roham Advance Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Dr. Tim Roham

Your surgeon will use a specialized technique with highly advanced instruments to place your implants precisely and provide the natural look you want. Your surgeon’s gentle technique allows for minimal bruising, decreased discomfort, a fast recovery, and a beautiful result. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Your surgeon will place a well-hidden incision along the crease under your breast, around your areola, or under your arm. Your surgeon will create a pocket inside the breast tissue to place your implant either directly behind your breast tissue (sub-glandular) or behind your muscle (submuscular).

Placing the implants gently and meticulously into the breast pocket will minimize any bruising and discomfort. If you have selected a saline implant, they will fill it after placing it into the breast pocket. Silicone implants come pre-filled. Your surgeon will carefully inspect the breasts to ensure there is excellent symmetry. They will close the incisions with sutures that dissolve on their own and place a dressing followed by a surgical bra. After your procedure, you will be able to return home the same day.

Recovery

Dr. Roham’s specialized technique allows for a fast recovery with minimal downtime. Post-operative instructions call for rest and limited movement. Within a day or two, most women are off pain medications and back to their usual routine, with some minor limitations. You will be given a prescription for medication to help with the initial discomfort. Additionally, Dr. Roham will ask that you massage the breasts frequently in the early weeks after breast augmentation surgery to prevent scar formation around the implant. While it is a good idea to introduce walking into your routine to increase your blood circulation as soon as you feel up for it, strenuous exercise should be postponed for a month or two. You should avoid vigorous exercise that could affect the position of your breasts or their ability to heal.

Breast Augmentation Results

Breast augmentation is long-lasting, and you can enjoy fuller, perkier breasts after the procedure. Many women also experience an improvement in intimate relationships from the self-confidence they gain after breast augmentation. (3) When performed by a skilled breast specialist who uses high-quality implants, breast augmentation results last for 10 to 20 years. In the future, you will need breast revision surgery, where you can decide to quickly remove and replace (or simply remove) your implants to achieve your preferred breast shape.

FAQ

Can breast augmentation correct the droopiness of my breasts?

Although breast augmentation can improve the appearance of your breasts, the focus of breast augmentation is to increase their volume. We cannot adjust the position of your breasts with breast augmentation. If you would like to augment and lift your breasts, you are likely a good candidate for combining breast augmentation with a breast lift.

Will I have scars after breast augmentation?

Scarring is minimal and our surgeon will carefully place incisions along the natural folds of your breasts to conceal them. Depending on your preferences and your cosmetic goals, we can place the incisions under the lower breast fold, around the perimeter of the areola, or within the armpit for a natural look.

Is it okay to have breast augmentation before having children or should I wait?

Breast implants should not affect your ability to breastfeed, especially when the implant is placed behind the chest muscle, so there is no reason that you cannot have breast augmentation before becoming a mother. Your breasts often increase in volume during pregnancy and decrease in size after breastfeeding. If you are planning to have children, we recommend that you wait to have breast augmentation to see how your breasts look after pregnancy.
