About Botox
Botox is an injectable treatment designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines while simultaneously preventing new ones from forming. This treatment is derived from botulinum toxin A, a type of neuromodulator. This means that the treatment blocks the transmission of certain nerve signals. (3)
This helps relax the facial muscles responsible for repeated movements that can lead to facial creases. Botox is commonly injected around areas such as the forehead, eyes, and between the brows for smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Benefits of Botox
Patients can experience a multitude of benefits after receiving Botox injections, some of which include:
- Wrinkle Reduction: Botox can effectively reduce the appearance of creases, fine lines, and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles responsible for repetitive movements.
- Minimally invasive Procedure: As Botox is a non-surgical procedure, patients will not need to worry about an extensive recovery time or incisions.
- Quick Treatment Time: The injections are quick to administer, with each appointment taking approximately 15-20 minutes or less.
- Minimal Discomfort: Many patients report only minor discomfort, describing the feeling as similar to a slight pinch.
- Lasting Results: The effects of Botox are long-lasting, with many patients experiencing results that can last for 3-4 months before being recommended for reinjection.
- More Youthful-Looking Skin: Diminishing the presence of wrinkles is one of the most effective ways to maintain a youthful appearance.
- Preventative Applications: Younger individuals can use Botox as a preventative measure against wrinkles or creases, preventing them from forming.
- Enhanced Confidence: Patients can experience an improvement in their self-esteem and confidence after seeing their refreshed appearance.

Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for Botox are men or women interested in addressing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and creases. Anyone interested in non-surgical facial rejuvenation may also be recommended for this treatment. All candidates interested in Botox should be in good overall health with realistic expectations regarding what this procedure can accomplish. Our injector will determine each patient’s candidacy during their personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
Those interested in Botox are asked to schedule a personal consultation at either our Santa Ana or San Clemente office before starting their treatment. This consultation is a chance for our team to meet each patient and also to find out how we can help. The injector will first learn about each patient’s medical history, concerns, and ideal treatment goals before performing a medical evaluation to check the condition of the skin. After confirming their candidacy, their treatment plan will be established. Preparation and recovery instructions will be provided for each patient, as well as a written estimate for their treatment. We ask that each patient come prepared to converse openly about their aesthetic goals, as this consultation is time dedicated to them and their specific treatment. Most patients can receive their first injections immediately after this consultation as well.

Preparation
Each patient will receive a set of preparatory instructions during their consultation. As Botox is a minimally invasive procedure, there is little preparation involved compared to other cosmetic treatments. Patients may be asked to avoid the use of certain medications or supplements that may thin the blood. Those who smoke are recommended to cease their use several weeks before and after their appointment for the most ideal results. Several days before each patient’s treatment, the use of harsh skin care products, such as retinoids, chemical peels, or exfoliants, should be avoided. It is also important to wear sun protection when going outside, as sun damage may force patients to reschedule their appointments until the area is fully healed.
Procedure
On the day of each patient’s appointment, they should arrive with a clean face, free of any makeup or other skincare products. The injector will start the treatment by cleansing and sterilizing the skin. A topical anesthetic may be administered to help minimize any discomfort; however, some patients find this unnecessary. From there, the injector will deliver the Botox to different points in the face, targeting areas that experience more dynamic movements. Each session can last approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on how many injections are being performed.
Recovery
Immediately after their appointment, patients will be able to return to their daily routines. Patients may experience light redness, swelling, or bruising, but these effects are temporary and will gradually subside. Patients should also refrain from rubbing or touching the treatment area initially.
Results
You can begin to enjoy the results of a Botox treatment within two to seven days. Patients can enjoy smoother skin and a more youthful-looking appearance. Many notice an overall reduction in wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. The results of Botox can last for three to four months, after which patients can choose to receive touch-up injections to maintain their results. (3)
Corresponding Procedures
We can combine Botox with other procedures to rejuvenate your appearance. One of our most popular corresponding treatments is Juvéderm. Juvéderm is a family of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that are designed to reduce wrinkles and folds around the mouth and augment the lips.
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC: The Juvederm Ultra Plus XC formula is designed to add volume and fullness to the lips, creating a more plumped appearance.
- Juvéderm XC: This filler is used to help restore lost facial volume while also smoothing away wrinkles around the mouth and nose.
- Juvéderm Volbella: This is the latest FDA-approved injectable added to the Juvederm portfolio. This treatment is designed to augment the lips while eliminating perioral lines, also known as smoker’s lines. This formula is also ideal for smaller corrections as it contains finer-sized particles.
Dysport
Dysport is an injectable treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the face. This FDA-approved treatment is also a neuromodulator composed of botulinum toxin, but is formulated differently to diffuse more readily into the facial muscles. This also means that the effects of Dysport may be seen sooner than those of Botox.
Daxxify
Daxxify is a treatment that aims to address the appearance of deep frown lines around the mouth. While this treatment is a neuromodulator, it contains a stabilizing peptide called RTP004 to help enhance the longevity of results. (5) Patients receiving this treatment will be able to experience their results in as early as the next day, with results that last approximately twice as long as Botox.
Jeuveau
Jeuveau is a neuromodulator treatment that is FDA-approved to specifically address from lines in the area between the eyebrows, known as the glabella. This treatment can help block the nerve signals responsible for repeated muscle contractions to help relax the facial muscles in the brow area, resulting in a refreshed and more uplifting expression.
Letybo
Letybo is an injectable that is designed to reduce the appearance of the glabellar lines between the eyebrows, also known as the “11 lines.” This treatment originates from South Korea and is the newest neuromodulator available in the country. Letybo features fewer accessory proteins compared to other neuromodulators, which may reduce the risk of allergic reactions or other complications.
Xeomin
Xeomin is an FDA-approved neuromodulator treatment derived from botulinum toxin that can be administered to smooth the surface of the skin. Xeomin differs from other neuromodulators as it has no accessory proteins. This means that it is not only the purest form of botulinum toxin, but also has the lowest risk of immune response in patients.
