About Dysport

Dysport is an injectable treatment designed to diminish the appearance of frown lines, creases, and facial wrinkles. This treatment is derived from the protein botulinum toxin type A and minimizes wrinkles by blocking the muscle contractions that form them. (2) This not only diminishes fine lines and creases but simultaneously prevents new ones from forming. When injected, the formula blocks the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions. (3) This treatment is FDA-approved for the glabellar (‘11’) lines, or the wrinkles that form between the eyebrows. Preparation

Your specialist will provide a set of personalized preparation instructions during your consultation. While preparation for Dysport is fairly straightforward, each instruction should still be followed for the best results.

Patients will need to temporarily modify their skincare routine to refrain from the use of harsh skincare products, including retinoids, peels, or exfoliants. You should use sunscreen each day and avoid excessive sun exposure. Patients may also be asked to temporarily discontinue using certain medications or supplements containing blood-thinning properties. On the day of each appointment, patients should arrive with a clean face, free of any makeup or skincare products.

Procedure

Each patient’s treatment will begin with the cleansing and sterilization of the skin before a topical numbing cream is applied in the treatment area. Your specialist will then use a fine needle to administer the Dysport formula to the targeted facial muscles that cause the deep lines and wrinkles between the brows. The formula will work to gradually reduce facial movement and muscle activity while still maintaining your natural expressions. Is Dysport painful?

Are Botox and Dysport the same thing?

No, Botox and Dysport are not the same. While they are both neuromodulators derived from the botulinum toxin type A, they are formulated differently and are considered by some injectors to have different onset times.
