About Breast Lifts
As you age and the levels of collagen in your skin decline, it is common to experience droopy breasts. Weight fluctuations and pregnancy can also change the appearance of your breasts. In 2023, specialists performed more than 153,000 breast lifts to help patients improve their figures. (1) The procedure reshapes the tissue, lifts the breasts to a higher position, and removes excess skin for a smoother, curvier appearance.
Breast Augmentation Lift
Although a breast lift can reposition your breasts and remove excess skin, it cannot increase the volume of your breasts. If you recently lost breast volume after aging, pregnancy, or weight changes, we can perform breast augmentation with implants for a fuller, curvier appearance. We offer several different types of implants that come in various shapes and sizes to enhance your figure. To learn more about our customizable breast procedures, see our blog.
Candidates
Suitable candidates for a breast lift would like to reposition and raise their breasts for a more youthful physique. Since the procedure is customizable, we can also reduce the size of the areolas for a balanced look. Many candidates for the procedure would like to:
- Remove droopy skin affecting the way their clothing and bras fit
- Improve asymmetry affecting their body proportions
- Reshape the breasts after pregnancy or weight fluctuations
- Reposition areolas that droop downward
Women who have saggy breasts or ptosis are excellent candidates. If you are a candidate, you will need to take good care of your body and maintain a stable weight. If you are planning to have children, we recommend that you wait to have a breast lift because pregnancy and weight fluctuations can affect the size and shape of your breasts.
Personal Consultation
During your consultation, we will ask about your current medications, lifestyle, and medical history. Please come prepared to discuss your body goals in detail to help us create the best treatment plan for your needs. We can also discuss the best type of incision, and whether or not you would like implants to increase the volume of your breasts. During your meeting, Dr. Roham will examine your breasts to determine the best treatment plan for your skin type.

Preparation
To prepare for a breast lift, you will likely need to complete preoperative lab testing and a mammogram to ensure that you are in good overall health. You may also need to discontinue certain medications if you are taking any that thin your blood. Taking time off from work and other responsibilities is also necessary to allow for adequate recovery time. Depending on your specific treatment plan, we can provide additional instructions to help you prepare.
Procedure
During your procedure, we will cleanse your skin and place you under anesthesia. Dr. Roham will make discreet incisions to reshape the breasts, reposition the nipple, and tighten the skin for a perkier appearance. Dr. Roham can make several different types of incisions to reshape the breasts and remove excess skin:
- Crescent: Dr. Rohan can make an incision along the edge of the areola
- Donut: He can extend the crescent incision further along the circumference of the areola to remove more skin
- Lollipop: He can reposition the breasts with a donut incision that extends vertically from the lower border of the areola to the lower breast crease
- Anchor (Inverted T): he can make an incision that extends vertically from the lower edge of the areola to the inframammary crease and horizontally along the crease (2)
Dr. Roham will use absorbable sutures to close the incisions and his specialized techniques reduce downtime for a smoother recovery. The procedure typically takes 2-3 hours, and you can return home immediately afterward to rest.
Breast Augmentation Lift
For breast augmentation, Dr. Roham will make a small pocket inside the breast mound. He can place the implant behind the chest muscle (submuscular placement) or in front of the muscle (subfacial placement) depending on your underlying anatomy and your desired look. Although silicone implants come prefilled, he can fill saline implants after placing them into the breast pocket. He will close the incision, and you can return home to rest after a short monitoring period.
Recovery
Although you can return home to recover after a breast lift, you will need to rest and limit physical activity to allow your body to heal. During your recovery, Dr. Roham can prescribe medication to keep you comfortable. After your procedure, you will need to wear a supportive bra for approximately one month. Dr. Roham will provide more detailed instructions. He will be available to answer questions and guide you along the way.
Results
After a breast lift, you can enjoy smoother breasts and a more lifted perky appearance. After your breasts heal in 1-2 months, you can enjoy the full results. The light, discreet scars will continue to fade for the first year after your breast lift.
To maintain your results, it will be important to maintain a stable weight and to take good care of your body. Avoiding sun exposure and protecting your skin with SPF can also help you reduce wrinkles and fine lines that could affect your appearance.
After Weight Loss Body Contouring
After weight loss, many patients experience droopy skin across the entire body. We offer several additional body contouring procedures to rebalance your proportions.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes pockets of excess fat for a smoother appearance. As you age, exercise-resistant fat can be difficult to eliminate with diet and exercise alone. With gentle suction, we can remove the fatty tissue to sculpt your figure. During the procedure, we cleanse the fatty tissue with tumescent fluid– a combination of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine– that causes the cells to swell for easier removal and minimizes downtime.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck removes droopy abdominal skin for a smoother midsection. Pockets of sagging skin can affect the way your clothing fits and the way you feel about your body. With a discreet incision along your underwear line, we can tighten the skin for a smoother appearance. We can also combine the procedure with liposuction to remove excess abdominal fat. The results are long-lasting, and you can enjoy a smoother, more youthful midsection for many years if you take good care of your body.
Body Lift
A body lift removes excess skin from the back, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or arms depending on your unique needs and body goals. We can perform an upper or lower body lift to target excess skin in different areas of the body. Many patients choose to undergo a body lift because the procedure is customizable and the discreet incisions result in a natural appearance. To learn more about body lifts, see our blog!
