About Letybo

Over time, facial expressions can wear on our skin, causing deep wrinkles and fine lines to appear. Letybo is a neuromodulator, meaning it works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles and lines to appear. “In the U.S., Letybo is FDA-approved specifically for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines (the ‘11 lines’ between the eyebrows). Some patients in studies have reported noticeable improvement as early as two days after treatment, though full results typically appear within 7 to 14 days. (1)

By inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, Letybo temporarily reduces muscle activity, softening the appearance of wrinkles caused by facial expressions. Many patients choose to receive regular treatment as “prejuvenation,” a form of preventative care. This ensures that the 11 lines do not cause permanent, deep wrinkles over time.

Letybo vs. Botox

Letybo is similar to Botox because it is a neuromodulator that works similarly. Patients can also achieve results that last for 3-4 months from Botox as well. Some studies note earlier improvements with Letybo compared to Botox, but this difference may not be clinically significant for all patients. This area of research is still ongoing.

Some practices may offer Letybo at a lower price point than Botox, depending on local market factors and supplier pricing. Botox and Letybo are formulated differently, using different stabilizing proteins, but they contain similar core active ingredients. While Botox can address multiple areas of the face, Letybo is FDA-approved specifically for glabellar lines.

Letybo vs. Dermal Fillers

Unlike dermal fillers, Letybo does not add volume to your skin. Dermal fillers are flexible injectable formulas that distribute themselves evenly beneath the skin, often binding to water molecules or stimulating collagen to increase volume. If you are interested in dermal fillers to enhance facial volume, we offer several different types of injectables for both deep and delicate tissue.

Candidates & Consultation

Patients seeking Letybo typically would like to diminish the appearance of the glabellar or ‘11 lines’ between the brows–for smoother skin. If you are in good overall health and you have realistic expectations about what you can achieve with your treatment, you are likely a good candidate. Patients who are pregnant or have active infections may not be eligible to receive injections.

During your consultation, we will ask about your aesthetic goals and preferences to ensure we are creating a treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. We will ask about your medical history and any allergies you have. During this meeting, we can also discuss additional treatments to customize your treatment and help you address any other aesthetic goals you have during your appointment.

Preparation

Preparation for this simple injectable is straightforward. To prepare for Letybo injections, you should stop taking medications and supplements that thin your blood. You should also discontinue skincare products containing retinol and stop drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours. You should also avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds, which can damage your skin. If you do experience skin damage, we may delay your appointment until your skin heals. We will provide additional specific instructions based on your goals and medical history.

Treatment Process

On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with clean skin without makeup or skincare products. We will cleanse your skin and administer the formula to temporarily relax the underlying muscles. The treatment will settle into the muscles over the next few weeks, creating beautiful, youthful-looking results.

After Your Treatment

After your treatment, you can return to most of your daily activities. You should avoid putting pressure on the treatment area, and if you experience swelling or discomfort, you can use a cold compress to help alleviate it.

You should stay in a vertical, upright position for several hours afterward and avoid intense exercise while Letybo settles into your muscles. You may experience some slight redness in the treatment area that will subside in a few hours. This treatment typically takes 7-10 days to reach its full effect, but you can start to enjoy improvements in your appearance after just a few days.

UV light is a major contributor to extrinsic skin aging, with studies suggesting it may account for up to 80% of visible signs of aging. (2,3) Wearing sunscreen is one of the most effective ways to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming.

Additional Treatments

There are several additional treatments we can perform to enhance your results.

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a topical solution that exfoliates your skin to remove dead skin cells. It can address the appearance of rough, dull, discolored, and/or scarred skin. It can also reduce signs of aging and sun damage for a more youthful look. Some patients choose to receive a series of peels to refresh their skin.

IPL Photo Facial

An IPL photo facial is a treatment that treats sun-damaged skin, age spots, large pores, and/or hyperpigmentation. It can address multiple skin types to address concerns on the face, hands, neck, and chest. In a recent study, patients experienced an 80 to 90% improvement in vascular skin concerns, such as vascular redness and rosacea, with these treatments. (4)

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a non-surgical treatment that eliminates hair and prevents future growth. We can administer gentle laser energy that alters the structure of the hair follicles to address hair on the arms, lip line, chest, back, or legs. It can help both men and women reduce unwanted body hair for a smoother appearance.
