Breast Augmentation and Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Santa Ana, San Clemente and Orange County, CA

A breast augmentation and lift is a cosmetic procedure that can elevate the shape, symmetry, volume, and position of the breasts to restore a more contoured and youthful-looking appearance. This procedure repositions the breasts on the chest wall to address malpositioning or a misshapen appearance while also placing implants to improve volume, allowing you to restore your natural contours, curves, and cleavage.

Dr. Tim Roham is a cosmetic surgeon at Advance Laser and Cosmetic Surgery who has amassed more than three decades of experience. Dr. Roham trained in a variety of specialties in cosmetic surgery and can comprehensively perform face, breasts, and body procedures to restore a more refreshed appearance that looks and feels like you—but better.

About the Breast Augmentation and Lift

The combined breast augmentation and lift is a procedure that pairs the individual techniques of a breast augmentation procedure and a breast lift. It addresses the shape, volume, and position of the breast and malpositioned and downward-pointed nipples, leading to comprehensive resculpting.

Types of Breast Implants Available

Dr. Tim Roham offers a wide selection of implants to cater to varying patient goals. During your consultation, he can help you select the perfect pair for your ideal chest.

Implant Size

Breast implants come in a wide variety of sizes, with larger sizes providing a fuller look. Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and typically range from 120cc to 800cc.

Implant Shape

Breast implants may either be round or anatomically shaped. Round implants offer even fullness across the entire implant and are ideal if you are interested in enhancing your cleavage. Anatomical implants are sloped to mimic the natural shape of the breast. They possess less fullness at their top and more fullness at their bottom portion.

Implant Material

Breast implants are a silicone shell that may contain either silicone or saline, with both options offering their own unique results.

  • Silicone Implants: Silicone breast implants are filled with a viscous gel that mimics the softness and feel of organic breast tissue.
  • Saline Implants: Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution. Dr. Roham places these implants in the chest empty before filling them, providing a greater degree of variability. (1)

Implant Profile

Breast implant profile is the base diameter, projection, and volume of the implant. Moderate profile implants offer a wider base but less projection on the top, while higher profile implants possess a narrower base but offer more dramatic results when seen from the side. (2)

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for breast augmentation and lift if you want to improve the appearance, position, and volume of your breasts. You may also benefit from this procedure if you are interested in reconstructing your breasts after undergoing a mastopexy.

To undergo this procedure, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. You should have completed having children and be no longer breastfeeding. You should also be non-smoking or willing to quit using nicotine. Dr. Roham will assess your candidacy during your consultation.

Personal Consultation

Your personal consultation is fundamental to your treatment plan. During this meeting, Dr. Roham will converse with you about the procedure and learn how he can help you best. He will explain how the procedure unfolds, review your medical history, discuss your concerns, and establish realistic expectations. He will also assess your natural figure, examine the composition of your breast tissue, and take measurements.

Dr. Roham will use this information to finalize your candidacy and create your treatment plan. He will help you find the best type of implants for your desired results and discuss the surgical techniques he will use. Depending on your goals, he may also suggest pairing your procedure with another.

Preparation

Once Dr. Roham has finalized your treatment plan, he will give you a written set of instructions to help you prepare. These instructions may vary according to your medical history and procedure details, but they generally include:

  • Altering Your Medication Intake: Discontinue using any blood-thinning medications or supplements leading up to your appointment.
  • Arranging Time Off: Take several weeks away from your professional and personal responsibilities and commitments to give yourself time to heal.
  • Coordinating At-Home Care: Have a trusted friend or relative drive you home and stay with you for the first few days of your recovery.
  • Run Errands: Fill your prescriptions and rearrange your home so it is a comfortable recovery environment.
  • Ceasing Any Substances: Refrain from consuming any nicotine or alcohol in the weeks leading up to your procedure.

Procedure

When you arrive for your procedure, a member of our team will place you under general anesthesia, keeping you comfortably asleep. Dr. Roham will then begin the augmentation procedure before lifting the breasts.

Dr. Roham will make one of three incisions: The inframammary incision, the circumareolar incision, or the transaxillary incision.

  • The Inframammary Incision: This incision placement extends horizontally beneath the breast crease, and hides any scarring along the natural contours of the lower breast.
  • The Periareolar Incision: This incision follows the bottom perimeter of the areolas and hides scarring in the pigmented skin found in this region.
  • The Transaxillary Incision: This incision is placed in the crease of the armpit and avoids scarring on the external breasts completely.

Dr. Roham will create a pocket either above or beneath the pectoralis muscle (subglandular or submuscular placement, respectively) and place the implants inside. (1) He will elevate the position of the breasts on the chest wall before removing any excess or redundant tissue. Each incision will then be closed using sutures before the region is dressed.

Recovery

After your procedure, you will need to take time for yourself so your body can heal. You can expect some initial swelling and bruising, but these effects will subside on their own with time. You may manage them with prescribed medications and plenty of rest. Dr. Roham will also have you wear a supportive bra to minimize additional swelling and maintain your new curves as you heal.

You may return to most nonstrenuous tasks after resting for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. However, you will need to refrain from anything more demanding until Dr.Roham has approved your return. He will provide you with additional instructions when he meets with you in person.

Results

You will be able to enjoy the refined results of your breast augmentation once you have fully recovered. They will vary depending on the specifics of your procedure, but you can expect to enjoy rounder, perkier, more symmetrical, and voluminous breasts. You may also emerge with more proportionate and central areolas.

The results of your breast augmentation and lift are long-lasting, with effects that you can enjoy for many years to come. However, breast implants are not lifetime devices, which means you will need to replace them at one point.

Cost of Breast Augmentation and Lift in Orange County, CA

The pricing of your breast augmentation will vary depending on certain factors in your treatment plan, such as the type of implants you select, the surgical techniques Dr. Roham performs, and the extent of your procedure. Once he has discussed these details with you, he will provide you with a comprehensive cost estimate.

FAQ

Dr. Roham can place either silicone or saline-filled breast implants.

What is the difference between breast augmentation and a breast lift?

Breast augmentation places silicone and saline implants in the chest to augment the size, shape, symmetry, and volume of the breasts. A breast lift elevates the position of the breasts to improve the appearance of the breasts without affecting their original volume. (3)

Where will Dr. Roham place the incision when performing my breast augmentation and lift?

Dr. Roham may either place the incision around your areolas, across the breast crease, or within the armpits to access the necessary tissues. He will decide which placement to use during your consultation, once he has performed a physical examination.

How long will the results of my breast augmentation and lift last?

The results of a combined breast augmentation and lift can last for several years. However, we recommend checking your implants regularly so you know when it is time to replace them.

How long will it take for me to recover after my breast augmentation and lift?

Many of our patients can return to their routines after resting for approximately 1 to 2 weeks, but your exact recovery will vary depending on the extent of your procedure and the rate at which your body heals itself. Dr. Roham will discuss what you can expect post-operatively once he has established your treatment plan.
