Hand Veins

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Santa Ana, San Clemente and Orange County, CA

Many women and men are bothered by the unsightly bulging veins on the back of the hands. These veins often become prominent and visible with age as the subcutaneous fat that normally hides the veins is diminished and the dermis of the skin becomes thin and translucent. These bulging hand veins are not diseased or varicose veins; they are normal veins which simply appear prominent. It is important to note that they appear large when the hand is allowed to rest below the level of the heart (down by your side). There are three common methods of treatment to improve the appearance of these veins.

  • Sclerotherapy (injections) using chemicals to remove the unsightly hand veins.
  • Phlebectomy (surgical removal through small incisions) is also used to remove these hand veins.
  • Fat transfer which involves removal of fat from an unwanted location and transfer to the back of the hands in order to hide these unsightly veins.

Recently, using a hyaluronic acid filler (like Restylane or Juvederm) has been discovered to aid in the appearance of hand veins by adding temporary volume into the backs of the hands for a more youthful-looking appearance.
